Where You Can Find Me is a functioning cyanotype sun dial that uses baby’s breath to mark the hour. Time is often used as a way to ground us in a sense of space, yet this piece pushes the boundaries of time as a marker. This sculpture points to the idea that we can orient ourselves in our natural surroundings without the use of time. We do not need a modern time system to gain our bearings but can instead rely on the powers of the earth to remind ourselves of where and why exist within ecosystems larger than ourselves.
St. Lucia commemorates the annual celebration of St. Lucia Day, a holiday observed in Sweden, Norway, and parts of Finland around Christmas Time. Used as an opportunity to connect with friends and family, my friends and I spend this holiday together every year to express gratitude and love for each other over traditional Finnish food. The cyanotypes were created using pieces of the festive wreaths brought from those who attended and exposed on tea bags that were gifted by a dear friend who hosts the event with me each year.
